So it's not THE exact camera I wanted, but it's great and I love it. Especially since I really wasn't expecting any camera at all. The features on this one are actually more advanced than the one I wanted! Now I just need to figure out how to use all of them :D

Part 2 of my birthday present from my mom is a new bed, we just went and picked it out today. I'm pretty excited, I'm a bit old (but not too tall!) to still be sleeping in a twin bed :) And it was a great deal, since it has "last year's fabric" covering it. Like anyone would even know!

I'm at work. And tired of working, so I'm going to see if I can get away with not doing anything for the next hour and 45 minutes and see if my boss notices. I do more at this job than at my real job and get paid less. Why am I sacrificing my weekends for this, again?

Tomorrow is my first day off besides Thanksgiving in about 3 weeks. Haircut, Christmas shopping, painting the kitchen and taking some pictures if I have some time sound like a good way to spend the day. Good, but not as wonderful as spending the whole day in my pajamas watching TV. Perhaps next Sunday, if I don't get killed in the crowds at the mall.

I haven't been to the gym in weeks now. But I can still button my pants, and is there really a point in trying to lose weight this time of year? I don't think so. I (like millions of Americans) will start that diet on January 1st. Well, probably. Yknow. If I feel like it.

Thanksgiving weekend wrap-up

Thursday: Had Thanksgiving with my mom's side of the family for the first time at my uncle's house. He called Wednesday to ask how to make mashed potatoes, and then cooked a 12-pound turkey for 10 people. Sadly, there was not much in the way of leftovers, which would have been nice, considering my kitchen is being remodeled and we haven't been able to cook anything in weeks. Saw "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" for the second time with mom and Sam. On a scale of 1-10, it gets an awesome. My new boyfriend gets a "spectacular" on the same scale.

Friday: Since I haven't earned enough leave yet, and the building was open, I had to work. Well, "work" isn't the right word. I did more sitting in the office watching DVD's and reading magazines than actually working, which consisted of walking around the building once and making 2 xeroxes. Saw "Rent", which gets a "meh" on the 1-10 scale. All I could think of the whole movie was the "Everyone has AIDS" song from Team America. ("AIDS AIDS AIDS! My Grandma and my old dog Blue!")

Saturday & Sunday: Worked at the photo hut. Nothing much interesting happened. Except for the trash can on fire outside my store.

I survived my first week at the new job. And this "real job" thing? Not so bad. The people who work at the court are seriously the nicest group of people I've ever met, I've never felt so welcome at a new job as I do at this. The searching is over. No more interviews ('cause I went on so many, haha), no more resumes, no more "We have received your application..." letters. Because I got me one of those real jobs. With benefits and sick leave and everything. I start on October 31st at 9am. Oh boy. It feels weird leaving the photo hut, but I'm staying on to work weekends, so I'm not *really* leaving.

In my stock of things to do while bored at work I have a book with various crossword puzzles, mind games, word finds, whatever. So today I'm working on this puzzle. You have to fit all these letters together to come up with a little story. Really not very hard. So after 10 minutes or so, I triumphantly finish my puzzle and read the story!

"A man was seated at the counter of a cafe ordering breakfast. He asked for a cup of coffee and an order of toast with the butter on the side. He was greatly surprised when his toast was delivered to him only carefully buttered around the edges of each piece."

Har har har. What the fuck kind of story is that? It only needed one more little line to make the puzzle worthwile; "So the man kicked the waiter in the balls"

Seriously, I'd like to know what happened to this guy and his toast. He better not have tipped the jackass waiter.

Spiders aren't exactly my favorite creatures, but I think I'm less scared of them than the average girl. Little brown spiders can't hurt you, and they eat other bugs, so I usually will just let it be if I see one in the house, or I'll catch it and put it outside. I just feel bad killing things.

But now this gigantic spider has taken up residence in the lamp by my front door, and has woven himself quite an impressive web from the lamp to the mailbox. Pretty smart thinking, too, as all kinds of bugs fly around that light at night. I don't really like it, but he looks pretty badass, and I am not trying to mess with him.

Somehow I made it through college without ever having a super sexy Halloween costume. I think this the year to correct that, and I think this is just the costume to do it.

It's cute, right? I don't think I'm going to go all out with those stockings, and certainly will find cuter, less stripper-esque shoes. I still need to try it on, as I'm not 6ft tall and 95 pounds like that model there, it might not be as cute on me as it is on her.

how to work like me

I'm quite good at slacking off at work. It is perhaps one of my favorite things to do. Slacking at home is good times too, but at work I get paid for it. In case you were wondering just how I manage to do it, here's a guide.

tip 1: choose your place of work carefully
Internet access is important, as is the amount of work the place handles. You don't want to get stuck somewhere busy where you actually spend all day working. Just recently while visiting the local Cold Stone, I wondered to myself "just when do these kids get to check their email at work?" The answer: Never. You also should avoid places with limited or ::gasp:: no internet connection. The world is a boring, lonely place without it.

tip 2: make sure your boss doesn't give a shit
Even at the slowest stores, you'll have some work to do sometimes. It's the times when there really isn't any work to do that you've got to pay attention to. Will your boss assign you some mundane busy work or let you amuse yourself? The more apathetic the boss, the more easily you can slide by doing as little work as possible.

tip 3: appear to be working, even when you're not
Even if you've got the coolest boss in the world, the higher ups in the company are probably not as cool with you browing the internet on their dollar. So for those unexpected times they drop by, you've got to have a back up; an excel spreadsheet or (in my case) a photoshop project opened in another window makes for fast and easy cover up.

From the customer's point of view, or anyone coming in the front of the store, you can't see what I'm doing on the computer, but they're sure to assume it's something important.

tip 4: loafing takes dedication
You can't just walk into a new job and expect to come in and be playing Poppit on the first day. The ideal situation is to stick around until you become absolutely essential to the business. When you can say "If they fire me, this place is fucked", you know you've made it. This may take years, but trust me, it's worth it.

So take these hints and apply them to your own job. You'll be "working" just like me before you know it. Just please, for the love of god, don't tell the crazy lady who owns this store what I'm up to all day.

Last night, in a competition of athletic ability, manliness and stomach capacity, Sung and Polsca played "Who can drink the most water". Two pitchers of Glory Day's finest ice water were ordered up, and the drinking began.

Needless to say, Sung won. Polsca never had a chance. But he did finish his pitcher just to prove he could. Did I mention they were drinking ice water? I was cold and full just looking at these two when they were done.

This squirrel is always hanging out around my store. He's pretty weird, too. A lot smaller than a regular squirrel. Plus, he doesn't walk like a regular squirrel. Sort of bounds around, Peppy LePew-style. Once he ran into my store and didn't want to leave, he even held onto the carpet with his claws when I tried to nudge him out the door. Now I see him in the shopping center all the time. Doesn't he know squirrels are supposed to live in trees? And if he wanted to live inside, surely he could find a nicer place than a photo shop. Certainly there are some crazy people who'd like a squirrel as a pet. But not me. I hate him.

It's the first day of fall today, the start of my favorite season. So I took down the summer display and set up the fall one at my store.

Reminds me of the disposable camera orchards we used to pick from as kids. And the picture frame patch field trips in elementary school.

Last year we hung paper leaves from the ceiling. It was pretty to look at, but a pain to put up and take down. So I threw them away instead of saving them like the manager asked me to. Oops.

Aww, look at him in his little Tupperware box! Just like you'd find pandas in their natural Tupperware-filled habitats.

I think a panda would be a great pet. I've been in love with this little guy since he was born. I could watch his webcam for hours. I imagine it's the most popular webcam of all time, though I've heard this rumor about naked people on the internet, and if some of those people found out about webcams, well, I don't even want to think about it. Anyways, the baby panda doesn't have a name yet, and you can vote for his name on the zoo's website (fonz.org). I call him Wiggles McButterstick, which even though it isn't one of the choices is pretty much the perfect name for him, and would probably sound pretty elegant in Chinese.

If only they could miniaturize and domesticate pandas, they would definitely beat out dogs as the most popular pets all over the world. Except in Tokyo, they'd have virtual pandas. Think about it though, they're cute, cuddly, and their favorite food is a weed. You could just plant some bamboo in the backyard, and you wouldn't even have to buy expensive Panda Chow.

They say "A picture says a thousand words", and I'd really rather not write that much. So when I started thinking about doing this blog, I decided to really do it well, I'd need a digital camera, since I'd rather take pictures than write. I've been pretty anti-digital camera, as I work in a photo lab and consider myself somewhat of a film snob. So what's a film snob to do to keep the photo karma balanced? Perhaps buy one of the crappiest, cheapest digital cameras on the market and the nicest film camera she can afford? You betcha.

So here's my crappy digi.

Let's start with that brand "Oregon Scientific". Ever heard of it? Me neither. Most of what sold me on this camera was it's size (tiny!) and look how cute it is!

That's where you put the SD card. It's like the manufacturer is saying "we're so confident your card *probably* isn't going to fall out of the bottom of the camera, we don't even need to put a cover on it."

Look at those tiny buttons! That biggest button near the bottom is actually a teeny little joystick. I actually have to use my fingernails to tilt it!

Actually, it's not so bad (yesterday's pet pictures were taken with it), and the convenience of being able to shoot something and have it on my computer immediately is pretty nice, too. The only issue I've had so far is if I'm closer than 4 or 5 ft to my subject using the flash, it comes out as a washed out white blob. I'm sure my Canon will not be replaced by a digital anytime soon. I was able to test it a little more yesterday, here are some more shots:

Occasionally, my sister will pet-sit Filippe, a guinea pig. I'm not sure her rabbit Piggy is super thrilled about having to share his space, though. Piggy and Filippe are pretty good neighbors. If Filippe needs a cup of sugar or a few eggs for his award-winning carrot cake, Piggy is usually good for it. Of course, they have their usual apartment battles; Piggy's always banging on the ceiling with his broom if Filippe's making too much noise.

In other pet related news, my dog Lucy fought a piece of bread from Cosi today. I guess it was too tough for her to chew, so she got really mad and beat the shit out of it instead.

I was going to take a picture of nick's cricket he was keeping in his cigarette pack, and write about that. But it got away at some point during the evening. So instead, "boys not smiling". Maybe I just said "smile!" in my head?

At the suggestion of my fans (Dan), I'm gonna do one of these blog thingies. Who knows if I'll keep it up, or if anyone will actually read it, but here it goes.

Ok, here we go. First post. Gotta be a good one. Or not.

One of my guilty pleasures is watching reruns of Judging Amy on TNT on afternoons I don't have to be at work. Now, it's a pretty cheesy show, but on the whole, I like it. Except for this guy. He wins the award for the TV character I'd most like to push off a building.
